Just talking with a friend and the subject of working outdoor (cold) events came up. For DJ work, I've always kept a Lil Buddy propane heater in the van. It helps but even with it I've had plenty of gigs that ended up being miserable and I HATE being cold. I just ordered a heated vest from amazon (see below). Can't say that I have a pressing need for it but hey, be prepared. What do you guys do to stay warm on outdoor, winter events?

I have done some backyard holiday parties in the past on really cold nights. My biggest concern was condensation on the gear. I used an infra-red heat lamp on my rack. I also needed the lamps to get condensation off of my CDs if I waited too long between pulling them out of the sleeve and putting them in the player. Finally, I could warm my hands with the lamps.

Rick, You must be a lightweight? It can not be that cold in your area? Any outside events that I have done in the pass the client and or venue have provided heat for the guests. I have an nice down filled vest that most of the time is too warm. My feet is the biggest problem staying warm.
condensation off of my CDs
Remember those days. As soon as you pressed open on your cd player you were in trouble. :djsmug: Hurry up and wait!

I did a lot outdoor Winter events here in Wisconsin, probably 5-15 years ago, ski jumps, ice racing, winter festivals, there was/ is a good market for it, I bought a used concession trailer, on board generator and propane heat, worked great

I can't remember the last time I did an outdoor event when it was cold. I try to stay away from such events. I hate cold weather!

I did an outdoor ice skating rink party at a Country Club many years ago probably like 7-8 years back. The CC set up a single propane heater next to my table, but I was still freezing. It was like a 6 pm to 9 pm event, and it had dropped to like 34 degrees outside. I had to go inside to warm up every 25 minutes or so for a few minutes. It hit 32 as I was tearing down. That was officially the coldest event I have done. I won't do an event like that again though. My agreement says that I don't work outside in temps below 55. I would make an exception for a quick wedding ceremony if the temps happened to dip just below 55, but that would be it.

I did -5 at an ATV ice racing event, warm and toasty in my trailer just put the plexiglass window in the opening

Guilty as charged. Anytime I'm outside in 40-50 degree weather, especially when it's for 5-6 hours straight, I get grumpy.
